Durante los ultimos dias, ICE ha hecho redadas en varias casas en St. James y Madelia, pueblos que quedan dos horas al sur de los Twin Cities. Hasta ahora han detenido entre 30-60 personas, y segun reportes, ICE va a quedar por alli hasta el viernes. Varias personas han reportado casos de abusos graves durante las redadas. No nos vamos a quedar callados mientras ICE aterroriza a nuestros comunidades…apoyan una respuesta coordinadad de los Twin Cities:

Over the past few days, ICE has raided a number homes in St. James and
Madelia, about two hours south of the Twin Cities. So far between
30-60 people have been detained, and it would appear that ICE is
remaining in the area until Friday. Several people have reported of
serious accounts of abuse during the raids. We refuse to sit by idly
as ICE terrorizes our communities…support a coordinated response
from the Twin Cities:

Press Release: Twin Cities Community to Protest Immigration Raids in St. James and Madelia, MN

TWIN CITIES COMMUNITY TO PROTEST IMMIGRATION RAIDS BEING CONDUCTED IN ST. JAMES AND MADELIA

When: Protest on Friday October 24, 2008 from 4:30-6pm

Where: Intersection of Bloomington Avenue and Lake Street, Minneapolis

The Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Coalition (MIRAC) will hold a protest on Friday Oct. 24 at 4:30 pm at the intersection of Bloomington and Lake St. to denounce the immigration raids being conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in St. James and Madelia. The coalition brings together community organizations and individuals who are workers, students, activists, families, and people of faith— both immigrants and their allies—who unite in speaking out against these raids.

These actions by ICE are merely the most recent example of the tragedies created by the enforcement of unjust laws. We denounce these enforcement tactics that tear families apart, create an environment of terror in communities, and punish the most vulnerable members of our society rather than reforming a broken immigration system.

We recognize that most immigrants have come to the United States out of necessity and with a desire to support their families. A country that truly values families would not carry out such arbitrary raids that separate parents from children, especially given the fact that those children are commonly US citizens. We currently have an immigration system that does not acknowledge the fact that our economy and our communities need these new members in order to thrive. Immigrants in Minnesota fuel the health of our local economies, schools, and communities.

MIRAC calls for an immediate moratorium on the raids and deportations that tear apart our families and our communities, and immediate legalization for all immigrants. We call on our elected officials to enact these policies, and to uphold the value of all members of our society regardless of race, nationality, or immigration status.
