Derrotemos a HF0064 y SF0175!
La propuesta de ley en Minnesota de ‘solo ingles’ es un ataque racista y anti-inmigrante!
Este año el Representante Steve Drazkowski (Republicano-Mazeppa) presento por su tercera vez en la legislatura del estado una propuesta de ley, HF0064, para hacer ingles el idioma oficial y único de Minnesota. Senador Bill Ingebrigtsen, (Republicano-Alexandria) lleva la misma propuesta en el senado del estado, SF0175.
Esta propuesta de ley es nada mas un ataque racista sobre los inmigrantes en Minnesota que hablan otros idiomas. Históricamente los esfuerzos en este país para sofocar otros idiomas vienen juntos con una campaña racista para demonizar y reprimir grupos que no sean blancas y de descendencia europeas.
Por ejemplo los colonizadores de este país cometieron un genocidio en contra de los nativo americanos. Un aspecto de este genocidio fue el intento de destruir la cultura de los nativo americanos a través de prohibir el uso de los idiomas de los indígenas y forzarles hablar solo ingles.
También los esclavos africanos eran prohibidos hablar sus propias idiomas de África, y obligados a hablar ingles. Eso también hasta el fin de destruirles su cultura y su espíritu de los africanos en Estados Unidos traídos acá en cadenas.
Esta propuesta actual en Minnesota de prohibir el uso de otros idiomas para trámites oficiales como el examen de manejo, procedimientos legales, etc., es una continuación de este legado vergonzoso de racismo y opresión en este país.
Es parte de la campana bien organizada y bien financiada por fuerzas poderosas y racistas en este país para atacar a los inmigrantes latinoamericanos y también inmigrantes de otros lugares. Viene en el contexto de la ley SB1070 en Arizona y las propuestas similares en muchos otros estados, y también la propuesta anti-inmigrante y racista en muchos estados para cancelar la 14 enmienda a la Constitución que garantiza la ciudadanía a tod@s que nacen en este país. También viene en el contexto de un aumento de deportaciones, redadas y despidos de trabajadores inmigrantes en todo el país. Es parte del mismo ataque y lo debemos derrotar.
El comité para los derechos de los inmigrantes (MIRAc) manifiesta en contra de la propuesta de ley racista HF0064/SF0175, y también cualquiera otra propuesta anti-inmigrante.
Creemos que ningún ser humano es ilegal, y luchamos por la legalización incondicional para todos los trabajadores inmigrantes en el país. Creemos que mientras el capital puede cruzar fronteras legalmente, los trabajadores tienen el mismo derecho de cruzar fronteras para trabajar y vivir donde quieren, con derechos iguales.

Defeat HF0064 and SF0175!
English-only Bill in Minnesota Legislature is Racist and Anti-Immigrant Attack!
This year Representative Steve Drazkowski (R-Mazeppa) has brought forward a bill for the third time in the state legislature, HF0064, to make English the official and only language of Minnesota. Senator Bill Ingebrigsten (R-Alexandria) is putting forward the same proposal in the Senate, SF0175.
This bill is nothing more than a racist attack against immigrants in Minnesota that speak other languages. Historically in this country, efforts to suppress other languages are part of racist campaigns to demonize and reprsess non-white, non-European people.
For example the European colonizers of this country committed genocide against the Native Americans. One aspect of that genocide was the attempt to destroy Native American cultures through prohibiting Indigenous people from using their own indigenous languages, and forcing them to speak only English.
Africans brought here as slaves were also prohibited from speaking their own African languages, and were forced to speak English. This was also with the goal of destroying Africans’ culture and spirit once they were brought in chains to the United States.
This current proposal in Minnesota to prohibit the use of other languages for official business like the drivers test, legal proceedings, etc, is a continuation of this shameful legacy of racism and oppression in this country.
It’s part of the well-organized and well-financed campaign by powerful and racist people in this country to attack Latin American immigrants and also immigrants from other places. It comes in the context of SB1070 in Arizona and similar proposals in many other states, and also the anti-immigrant and racist proposals in many states to cancel the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that guarantees citizenship to all who are born in this country. It also comes in the context of a rise in deportations, raids, and firings of immigrant workers all over the country. It’s part of the same attack, and we must defeat it.
The Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee (MIRAc) is against the racist bill HF0064/SF0175, as we are also against any other anti-immigrant bills.
We believe that no human being is illegal, and we struggle for unconditional legalization for all immigrant workers in this country. We think that while capital can cross borders freely, workers have the same right to cross borders to work and live where they want, with equal rights.
